CAMPESINO ACTIVITIES

oxcart
One of the most innovative ideas of the Santa María Hotel is the range of activities offered, in which visitors can have a taste of traditional campesino skills, and children and young people can find fun things to do and interact with local people of their own age.

Meetings between third-world poor and better-off people from the first world can sometimes be awkward for a variety of reasons: it may be difficult to know how to strike up a conversation, there is a language barrier, and a sensitive traveller may be afraid of appearing patronising. Through our programme of learning from campesinos, hotel guests are enabled to make a relationship with the poor on the healthy basis that the local people are the teachers and the visitors are the pupils. All age groups can find something they will enjoy, and one of the options is always to read in the hotel’s excellent library.
